Fresh local produce, preserves, pastured meats and fresh eggs About Us Pickling Dixie was founded in 2017 and is 100% female owned and operated in Cobden, Ontario. With over 5000 square feet of garden space and 6 acres of land, all of the produce used in their preserves are grown on site. We offer unique and traditional, award winning preserves, fresh produce, fresh free range eggs from ducks and quail and pastured inspected meats such as chicken, turkey and Ontario Pork. Our gardens are hand sewed and mended, and we use our Runner Ducks to control unwanted pests. We never use sprays or chemicals and only grow with organic practices in mind. During harvest season, we have over 30 different preserves. Our produce is harvested in small batches on site, and goes from garden to jar within an hour. Each batch of preserves is made in small batch quantities, but during peak harvest season we can be found preparing and canning 200+ jars daily. We use safe, tested recipes, brand new jars, rings and lids with each product. We never use preservatives, additives or artificial colouring in our products and we are fully insured and licensed for retail sale. We also offer fresh seasonal produce from May through October. We offer Pastured, Inspected Ontario Pork, and we also raise free range and pastured turkeys for your fresh Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) Fully licensed and insured, our products meet CFIA guidelines and all labels include full ingredients and information. We are also current on the most updated safe food handling certification. We are a registered Ontario Business and Ontario Pork Farmers. Highlights this Month The gardens have come to an end for this season. We had a solid 3 months of growing time with the late June Frost and early fall frost here in Cobden. Our preserve list is looking great heading in to the winter months and we are stocked up on everything. Crabapple jelly and cranberry sauce have made their return this season and the crab apples had a great season. Planning ahead, we have ordered new orchard trees, and elderberry bushes for our farm growth in 2021. Around the farm we are busy getting everything closed up for winter time. We took our Thanksgiving turkeys for processing in October. Our farm stand hours have dropped to Friday through Sunday and will only be here for another 2 to 3 weeks, weather dependant. We will be shutting our farmstand down until spring 2021, but encourage orders through our online ordering system during the off season. We will continue to update our products with the OVFC each cycle. Our Angus calves are growing well, and ready to enter their first winter season here, they are still on pasture, and will have access to the field all winter long, but will bed down at night in the barn. With the Holiday season approaching, we have a handful of Christmas turkeys available (fresh), which we require preorders for. Please contact us at picklingdixie@gmail.com to discuss.
